Creating a custom assessment

Build an assessment from scratch by combining sections and question types.

Pro Updated May 8, 2026

Custom assessments are available on Pro and Enterprise. From Assessments » Create New, give your assessment a title and description. Then add sections.

Sections

An assessment is a list of sections. Each section has a title, instructions, and one question type. Candidates see one section at a time with a progress bar.

Question types

  • Multiple Choice - one or many correct answers; auto-scored.
  • Written - free-form answer, typed in the browser.
  • Typing Speed - timed transcription with WPM and accuracy.
  • Excel Live - SheetJS-backed live spreadsheet; you specify the prompt and the expected cell answers.
  • Pivot Table - same as Excel but with a pivot-specific scoring template.
  • Data Entry - structured form-fill against a target dataset.
  • Checklist - tick items completed; useful for SOP audits.
  • Rating - 1-5 star or 1-10 scale rating questions.
  • NPS - 0-10 net-promoter scale, with optional "why" follow-up.
  • Yes/No - boolean per question.
  • Comments - open-ended free text for surveys.

Worked example

Each section type shows a worked example using a customer-service role topic so you can see how it should look. The example is a hint only and never appears to candidates.

Preview

Click Preview at the top of the editor to see your assessment exactly as a candidate will. Preview submissions are not saved. Note: preview blocks the rating-label step because it never receives answers.
